- Neutral and productivity-focused colour schemes
- Clean, professional finishes on plasterboard and plaster walls
- Sealing coats on new plaster for even absorption
- Feature walls and accent colours in home office spaces
- Built-in shelving, alcoves, and fitted furniture
Balsall Common modern detached commuter properties often have converted spare bedrooms or purpose-built home offices with plasterboard walls. Skipping a sealing coat on new plaster leads to patchy results through all subsequent coats. That sealing coat is what we include as standard.

Home Office Painting Services
Our home office painting covers colour consultation, surface preparation, and specialist finishes for productive workspaces.
Productivity-Focused Colour
Home office colour affects focus and energy. Neutral grey-greens, soft blues, and warm whites suit work environments better than high-stimulation bold colours.
Post-war semis in Finham converted to home offices benefit from warmer neutrals that compensate for limited natural light. Kenilworth detached home offices with south-facing windows can carry cooler tones effectively.
Plasterboard and New Plaster Surfaces
New plasterboard is highly absorbent. Standard emulsion applied without a sealing coat soaks in unevenly, producing a patchy finish that shows through all subsequent coats.
We apply a sealing coat to all new plasterboard before any emulsion. For more on this process, see our wall painters page.
Feature Walls and Accent Colours
A feature wall behind a desk adds character to a home office without disrupting the working feel of the room. Darker tones on a single wall create a natural backdrop.
Achieving a clean colour edge at the ceiling and adjacent wall junctions requires careful masking and hand-cutting. We do not cut home office edges with a roller.
Built-in Shelving and Alcoves
Built-in shelving and alcoves in home offices need the same finish as the main walls. Internal surfaces of alcoves and shelving units need adequate coats to cover evenly.
Contrasting the alcove interior in a slightly deeper tone of the same colour is a popular approach in Kenilworth and Earlsdon home offices.
Low-VOC Paints for Occupied Homes
Home offices are occupied rooms. Paint odour in a working space is a real concern. We recommend low-VOC options for home office projects.
We schedule the work to allow ventilation phases. The room is aired before it is reoccupied.

Our Home Office Painting Process
1. Site Visit and Colour Consultation
We visit the home office, assess the surface condition, and discuss the colour direction. New plasterboard areas are noted separately.
2. Surface Preparation
New plasterboard gets a sealing coat. Existing painted surfaces are sanded where needed. Cracks are filled and surfaces are checked for sound adhesion.
3. Ceiling
The ceiling is painted first. Clean cutting at cornicing or the ceiling-wall junction before the ceiling coat goes on.
4. Walls
Walls are rolled in full coats with brush-cut edges at every junction. Feature wall masking is applied carefully. Two to three full coats as required.
5. Woodwork and Final Touches
Skirting boards and door frames last. Final inspection for missed edges, uneven coverage, and brushmarks before leaving.

Home Office Painting Costs in Coventry
Prices below are estimates only. Every home office is different. Call 024 7542 6652 for a precise quote.

What Drives the Price
Surface type. New plasterboard needs a sealing coat. Existing painted walls need sanding and cleaning. The preparation requirement depends on the surface age and condition.
Room size. A compact converted bedroom in a Finham semi costs less than a purpose-built home office in a Kenilworth detached.
Project size. Walls only cost less than walls plus ceiling plus woodwork. A feature wall accent adds masking time and a separate colour coat.
Typical Ranges
- Compact home office (Balsall Common modern detached, sealing coat plus 2 topcoats): £360 to £520.
- Standard room home office (Finham 1960s semi, converted bedroom): £320 to £480.
- Larger dedicated home office (Kenilworth Victorian detached, high ceiling, built-ins): £500 to £750.
Trade Insight
Balsall Common modern detached properties converted to home offices often have plasterboard partitions added to create a separate workspace. New plasterboard partitions need a sealing coat before emulsion. Skipping it produces a permanently patchy wall.
