- Interior flush and panelled door painting
- Door frames and architraves
- Fire door repainting and finishing
- Wardrobe and fitted furniture door painting
- Stripping and refinishing old doors with heavy paint build-up
Allesley village properties have solid hardwood interior and external doors, many with multiple layers of old paint built up over decades. Cutting back to a clean surface before refinishing is necessary to achieve sharp panel definition and a durable topcoat. Paint over old paint over old paint eventually loses its adhesion. We assess before we start.

Door Painting Services
We handle every type of interior door across Coventry properties.
Interior Flush Doors
Flush doors are the most common internal door type in Coventry’s post-war semis in Finham, Cheylesmore, and Canley. Flat surfaces with no panel detail.
We apply a spirit-based undercoat where needed and finish with quality satin or gloss. New doors get a primer before undercoat. Previously painted doors get a light sand to provide a key.
Panelled Doors
Panelled doors in Earlsdon and Allesley period properties have moulded detail that accumulates old paint in the recesses. This softens the profile and hides the panel shadow lines.
We clean out the recesses carefully before repainting. Sharp panel shadows are restored. The result is a door that reads as a period feature, not a block of paint.
Door Frames and Architraves
Door frames and architraves tie the door to the room. A freshly painted door with unpainted frames looks unfinished.
Period door frames in Kenilworth and Royal Leamington Spa properties have deeper and more elaborate profiles than modern frames. We take the time the profile requires.
Fire Doors
Fire doors must not have their intumescent strips compromised during decoration. We work around fire door strips carefully and do not paint over them.
We confirm which doors are fire rated at the site visit. This is particularly relevant for rental properties and commercial premises across Coventry.
Stripping Old Doors
Old solid hardwood doors in Allesley and period Coventry properties sometimes carry eight to ten coats of paint. Stripping back to bare timber before repainting is the right approach.
We strip doors using chemical strippers or heat guns as appropriate. The finished door has crisp profile definition and a sound primer bond.

Every door project includes frames and architraves as standard.

Our Door Painting Process
1. Site Visit and Assessment
We check each door for condition, paint build-up, any damage, and frame alignment. We advise on whether stripping is needed and confirm the colour and finish specification.
2. Preparation
Existing paint is sanded to a key. Where stripping is required, old coatings are removed fully. Cracks and surface damage are filled.
3. Priming
Bare timber gets a wood primer. Previously painted surfaces in sound condition get a light sand and proceed to undercoat.
4. Undercoat and Topcoat
An undercoat is applied where needed, followed by a satin or gloss topcoat. Each coat cures fully before the next.
5. Final Check
We inspect all door faces, frames, and architraves before leaving. The door is checked to open and close freely.

Door Painting Costs in Coventry
Prices below are estimates only. Every door job is different.

What Drives the Price
Door painting typically costs between £60 and £200 per door including the frame and architraves, depending on door type and preparation required.
A simple flush door costs less than a panelled door with multiple moulded details. Doors with heavy build-up need stripping first. Painting all interior doors in a full house costs less per door than painting one door on its own.
Trade Insight
Allesley period solid hardwood doors with multiple old paint layers are worth stripping and refinishing properly. A well-restored hardwood door outperforms a replacement hollow-core door on every measure.
Typical Ranges
- Interior door (stripped and refinished, Allesley Victorian property): £160 to £290 per door.
- Standard flush door (post-war semi, Finham, paint and frame): £60 to £100 per door.
- Panelled door with frame (Earlsdon or Kenilworth period property): £120 to £180 per door.
